NTPC achieves largest ever commercial capacity addition of 5, 290 MW in 2019-20. The latest capacity additions are 250 MW unit of Barauni Thermal Power Station Stage-II (2 x 250 MW) and 800 MW unit of Darlipalli Super Thermal Power Station Stage-I (2 x 800 MW) with effect from March 1, 2020. In the current fiscal, NTPC has added commercial capacity at Gadarwara (800 MW), Lara (800 MW), Tanda (660 MW), Khargone (660 MW), Barauni (250 MW) and Darlipalli (800 MW) plants.

Rajasthan plans to set up 30, 000 MW solar capacity in 5 years Rajasthan plans to set up 30, 000 MW of solar power plants in next five years and is in talks with leading private and state-run companies to develop energy parks, the state’s energy minister BD Kalla told ET. This will add to an already installed capacity of around 50, 000 MW in the state, he said. “We have come up with a new solar policy in which we are giving a host of incentives, including relaxations in stamp duty, electricity duty and transmission and wheeling charges. We are also allowing banking of energy for captive consumption and third-party sale on yearly basis, ” Kalla said. Recently, the Centre allocated Rajasthan a 25, 000 MW ultra mega renewable energy park. The state government has identified land bank of 125, 000 hectares in three districts — Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur—for this park.
The solar power tariff in India has experienced a drastic fall over the last few years. In India, the total solar power generation capacity increased from 461 MW in 2011 to 6, 763 MW in 2016. Over the last few years, the solar power generation capacity has increased significantly due to the favorable government initiatives with developments in manufacturing technology of solar panels. Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) In a major initiative toward making Annadata also a Urjadata PM-KUSUM scheme was approved on 8th March 2019 & implementation guidelines were issued on 22/07/2019. State-wise allocation of capacities for the first year was made on 13/08/2019. The scheme covers grid-connected RE power plants(0.5-2 MW)/ solar water pumps/ grid connected agriculture pumps and has following three components:- Component A: Installation of 10, 000 MW of decentralized ground mounted grid connected renewable energy power plants by farmers of 500kW -2MW capacity within 5 km distance from sub-station primarily on barren/uncultivated land. Component B: Installation of 17.50 lakh standalone solar powered agriculture pumps for which government of India will provide financial support upto 30% of the cost of solar pump and states to also provide atleast of the cost of solar pump, balance cost to be shared by the beneficiary farmer.
